20% Project Week Six

This week of working on my 20% project was pretty successful. I was able to accomplish one haircut during the weekend and I thought the haircut was pretty good. I can see the improvement I’ve made from the first haircut to now which makes sense because practice makes perfect. In class, I had to start working on my trifold for the project which I struggled with a little bit because there wasn’t anything I needed to add to the trifold other than pictures which was at home. So I adjusted and wrote the title and thought of the layout. After writing the title and all of that, I had some extra time so I started working on my script. Then on the weekend I kept on working on my trifold and script to make sure it is the best it could be so I can be prepared to present to parents and to my class. This will be the last week on working on my 20% project and this project was very fun for me since it introduced me to a new hobby.

My Favorite Memories of 7th Grade

My 7th grade year has given me many fun memories to remember, but here are three of my favorite. My first favorite memory this school year was in my CORE class. The memory is the Knight at the museum event. In that event, all of the 7th graders researched about the medieval times and made a trifold about it. Then at night, everyone’s parents come and watch us present about it and it was very fun since I got to hang out with all of my friends. My second favorite memory in my 7th grade year was when I was playing a three vs three in basketball at lunch, and I made two three point shots. On some random lunch, a bunch of my friends like at least fifty people, came out to the basketball courts and we decided to play a three vs three. I was one of the people who were playing and I made two three’s and the whole crowd of my friends went crazy and it was a very loud and fun lunch. Finally, my third favorite memory in 7th grade was when a bunch of my friends and I did a basketball draft for the summer at school. My friends and I wanted to play basketball in the summer so we made team captains and chose the teams to play. When we did this, for some reason everyone found it interesting so about one-hundred to two-hundred people came and watched us do it. It was very exciting and loud. My 7th grade year was very fun and exciting and those were my top three memories.

20% Project Week Five

This week was an ok week. The things that I accomplished was watching videos for tips on fading because I think I need more tips on how to fade good, and scheduling some haircuts in the future. This week I did struggle and my struggle was that I didn’t have any time to get a haircut in. I was busy with other things and I wasn’t able to practice, but next week I will make sure that I can get a haircut scheduled. I already have a couple of people since I had haircuts scheduled for this week, but I had to postpone them to next week. For my adjustments this week, I had to adjust my haircut times and reschedule them another time. Next week, I will keep on watching Youtube videos on cutting hair to learn more skills and make sure that I will have at least one person to practice on.

April-Rad Reading

This month I read Catch That Pass Matt Christopher. In this story, Jim Nardi is a linebacker on the Vulcans. Jim has the potential to be the best linebacker on his team but the only thing holding him back is his fear of being tackled. His friend Chuckie Gorman knows Jim isn’t a scaredy cat and keeps on encouraging Jim. Can Jim overcome his fear unlock his full potential?

I really enjoyed reading this book because I love the message. Matt Christopher delivers a message on that we all have our fears and sometimes that fear is holding us back on being really good at something. Jim in this book is a perfect example of that because he has all of the skills to be the best football player but his fear of being tackled is holding him back. This book is a great choice if you like football and if you just want to read a great story.

My favorite character in the book is Doug which is Jim’s older brother/coach. He is my favorite character because he is very protective and encouraging to Jim. On page 84, it says “You’d better not practice football for a week. Give this a chance to heal.” This shows that he is protective because Jim burned his arm and Doug wants Jim to not play football for at least a week so it can heal. He’s also encouraging because Doug also knows that Jim isn’t a coward so he pushes him to get rid of his fear of being tackled and that is just a great older brother.

My favorite quote in the book is on page 127 when it says “He sprang to his feet and saw Bucky, Marv, Yak Lee and Hook grinning at him.” This quote is my favorite in the book because in this part, Jim intercepted a pass and after he caught it, he can see his teammates finally happy with him. Before Jim got over his fear of being tackled, his teammates almost despised him and was annoyed by his fear, but now since he overcame that fear, he is outshining his teammates.

My Perfect Mom

My mom is the most amazing mom ever. She has everything you can ask for and I am truly grateful to have her in my life. There are so many things that make the best and one of things is how much she cares for me. She does so many things for me when I don’t even ask like clean my room or give me a yummy snack to eat and every time she does that it  makes my day. She also sacrifices a lot for me because she has to sacrifice her time like taking me to practice every time or dropping me off at a friends house and even though she doesn’t want to do it, she does it anyways because she cares for me. Another reason why she is the best mom is because of how supportive she is. Any time I have a baseball game she wants to be there because she loves me and wants to support me. Or if I have a bad day she will always be there to support me. There are so many other things that make my mom the best but the list will go on and on.

20% Project Week 4

This week while working on my 20% project was pretty good. I accomplished a good amount of work this week because I watched many videos on more helpful tips on cutting hair and got two haircuts done. One of my friends came over on Monday for a buzz cut with a fade. The haircut came out pretty good, but I did struggle with the fade a little. The sides were pretty good but I had to adjust in the back because his neck was shaped differently. I made it work though and it came out not too bad. He said he liked it so that is all that matters. Then on Tuesday, another friend came over for a buzz cut with a fade. This time this one came out really good with no mistakes and I didn’t have to adjust at all. This week was very successful again and next week I will keep on doing the same thing by watching videos and keep on practicing on people.

20% Project Week Three

This week while working on my 20% project was a success. I had no problems again and I am seeing lots of progress. On Friday, I kept on watching videos to learn how to cut hair and gaining more knowledge. Also on Friday I locked an appointment for a haircut with my friend on Monday. I’m starting to get a lot more people to practice on which is amazing so I can keep on practicing and getting better. I  haven’t really messed up anybody’s hair since every time I get done with the haircut, they tell me I did pretty good. So on Monday, my friend came over to get his haircut. He wanted me to cut some off the top and clean up the sides and back with a fade. This time I really didn’t have to adjust with the fade since I realized I don’t need the 0.5 and 1.5 guard. So then I listened to him and did what he asked it turned out very good. He loved the cut and said thank you and left. This week was very good and next week I’ll do mostly the same by watching videos and getting more people to cut.

20% Project Week Two

Working on my 20% project this week was amazing. I had no struggles this week and it was very successful. On Friday I watched more videos on the basics on cutting hair, and also scheduled some haircuts with my friends on the weekend. That was a huge accomplishment since I have been trying to get people to practice on and now I have some. So then on Sunday, two of my friends came over for haircuts. The first one that got their haircut wanted me to cut the sides and back, leave the hair on the top, and give a fade. With that information I got to work and started cutting. I did the back and sides easily, but with the fade barbers use a 0.5 guard and a 1.5 guard which I don’t have. So instead I had to adjust and use a 1 and 2 guard which worked just as well. So after that haircut which I was very proud of, it was time for the second person. This one was way easier since he just wanted a buzz cut. After that, I was done! I was very proud of myself with my work and next week I’ll pretty much do the same thing. Find people to give haircuts and keep on watching videos. I’ll see you in next weeks blog!

The Best Room in my House is…

My favorite room in my house is my own room. My room is my favorite room out of all of the other rooms in my house because it has many of my favorite things and one of them is my bed. I love sleeping and my bed is usually where I sleep. It has my two blue pillows with my green blanket and it is my comfort zone. Sometimes whenever I just want to lounge, I will jump on my bed and lay down and relax. Another reason why my room is my favorite room in my house is because of my TV. Having a TV in my room is the best since I can watch things on a big screen and not on a small screen to save my eyes a little bit, and I can watch my favorite shows, sports, and even play games on it all in my own room. The last reason why my room is my favorite room is because it’s my room. My room is my little area in my whole house that is mine and I can do whatever I want, whenever I want and I am most comfortable when I am in my room. There are so many other things in my room that make it the best room in the house and that is why my room is my favorite room.

20% Project Week One

Hi my name is Brandon and for my 20% project I am learning how to cut hair. I wanted to learn how to cut hair because lots of people want their hair to look good and they have to pay barbers a good amount of money to get their hair cut, but if I learn how to cut hair and get good, then my friends don’t have to spend lots of money for a haircut. This week was pretty successful because I watched many youtube videos on tutorials on how to section the hair for trims and how to do fades. From those videos I gathered some information like to dampen the hair when trimming the hair with scissors and when using the trimmers, you want the hair to be dry and learned how to fade by knowing what guards to use when fading. I have had some troubles trying to find some people to practice on. I have at least one person to practice on which is not enough but I will keep on trying to find some clients. This project is very fun and cannot wait to see my progress throughout the weeks.
